The Woman who saved her own Pinky!

This article is about a woman who saved her own pinky. On a stormy day, Kulkarni came inside her house and was taking off her shoes. Someone slammed the door so the dog wouldn't get out. Her pinky happened to be there, and at first she thought that it was just bruised, but then she saw the tip of her pinky finger on the floor. She went to the emergency room, and they wouldn't put it back together, so she asked to see specialists. The specialists were going to amputate it, but she refused. Kulkarni researched, and she found stories on 60 Minutes and Oprah. It was about a new procedure called tissue regeneration, which makes amputated finger parts grow back. She went to a doctor and told him about it, and at first he was not sure about it, but she gave him some research materials and he finally agreed to try it. The treatment involved cleaning out the finger, removing scar tissue, and dipping her finger into MatriStem. After seven weeks of getting the treatment, he pinky finger grew back. That's what this article is about.

I liked this article, because it was very interesting. It wasn't like any other article. I mean, how often do you get to hear about someone's pinky tip growing back after it got cut off by a door? I liked how she just kept going on, making sure she was going to get her finger back, so she could do all of the things she could do before. And that is why I liked this article.

This is the picture of Kulkarni's new pinky beside her cut off pinky tip.

I found this article online at the CNN News site. Here is the link: http://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/09/09/pinky.regeneration.surgery/index.html?npt=NP1
